Manish Malhotra’s show for the Couture Week saw the who’s who of Bollywood all dressed in their classiest best rooting for Manish. The show titled “Destination Wedding” was Manish’s trendiest bridal collection yet.
The front rows were occupied by Manish’s industry friends some of which included Karan Johar, Kajol, Raveena Tandon, Imran along with beau Avantika, Preity Zinta, Srivedi and Bonny Kapoor, Uday Chopra, Ameesha Patel, Sophie Choudary, Diya Mirza and Priyanka Chopra, Dino Morea, Nandita Mitani, Vogue Team, Sheetal Mafatlal, Aarti Surrendarnath, Kavita Chogule, Raheja’s to name a few.
The collection had a contemporary almost Mediterranean feel with white drapes and crystal chandeliers. In true Manish Malhotra style the collection played with a lot of young and trendy colors like ivory, peach, pink and gold and saw the use of a lot of velvet and chiffon fabrics. Keeping in mind the theme of the show the music was a mix of House music with Indian Wedding Beats with a mix of Love Aaj Kal Movie.

The designs with seductive lengas and beautiful fabric just added to the perfection of the outfits.

Full Biodata and Successful Assignments
For a change ace designer Manish Malhotra was pandering to the style-conscious chatterati in Mumbai and not his Bollywood lovelies. Malhotra who is better known as the makeover king for such style icons as Urmila Matondkar and Karisma Kapoor, recently launched his pret collection to a select gathering.

Malhotra's collection, titled the Enchanted Ensemble, has been inspired by the Shakespearean comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Malhotra, who isn't much of a reader, confessed that on a visit to London he came across some couplets from the comedy and was inspired to create the line. "I was charmed by the play's sense of whimsy and rhyme, of freedom and flowering. This collection comes with all the breeziness and romance of a Shakespearean work," he said.

Given the inspiration, Malhotra has steered clear of bold colours like black and red and opted for pastel shades like lilacs, lavenders, whites, creams, pink and lemon instead. These colours have been splashed on sensual crepes, georgettes, nets, silks, khadi and jute.

And most of the outfits have embellishments in the form of intricate chikan work, resham work, cut work and embroidered patches worked over with beads and iridescent sequins. Malhotra has put together short kurtas with stoles, hip-length tops, loose knit shirts, silk corsets and lycra trousers for women and kurtas, kurta shirts, full shirts, short shirts, jackets and drawstrings for men.

"This is the first time I have created a collection of such mammoth volume - a hundred outfits each for men and women," said Malhotra. Modelling the clothes at the launch were names like Waluscha D'Sousa, Reshma Bombaywalla and Tapur Chatterjee among others, and lending support to Malhotra were all his good friends from the upper echelons of Mumbai society.

Apart from the Bollywood brigade also present on the occasion was ace designer Hemant Trevedi - said to be Malhotra's arch rival - admiring the collection. With this collection Malhotra has managed to pull off a another makeover - his own - for there's nothing Bollywood about it.

His hard work and creativity has paved his way wide spread recognition as well as several awards. He was awarded by the first and only Filmfare Award for Costume Design for Urmila Matondkar's look in Rangeela, the Showtime Opinion Poll Award for Raja Hindustani, the Siemen's Viewer's Choice Award for Dil To Pagal Hai, the Lux-Zee Cine Award and the Bollywood Award in New York for his work in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

He has also adorned with Indira Priyadarshini Memorial Award for his contribution to the fashion industry, felicitated by National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi and the Indo American Society for his contribution to fashion designing, and was also named the most Stylish Designer Of the Year at the Elle Style Awards in 1999. He also won the Zee Cine Award and IIFA Award for the year 2000 for the film Mohabbatein.

After attaining the peak of his success, Manish Malhotra decided to concentrate more on designing and started his hi-profile store Reverie - Manish Malhotra in 1998. The store received a tremendous response and he also has designed the wedding attire for some of the most beautiful and high profile people in and across the country.

In 1991, this talented designer presented his much awaited first fashion show. It was really a great delighted show and 70% of the clothes were sold out within 3 weeks. The high point of his collection was the embroidered denim wear that became a range of the city. In 2004 he has launched, India's first dedicated diffusion label " Manish Malhotra". Presently retailing at various parts of India and Across, the label stands for its uniqueness and mesmerizing style that blends with rich , lush colours detailed with textures in each and every piece.

In 2005, he started a talk show named ' The Manish Malhotra Show' on Zoom which features the fashion tips as well as Manish's chatting up with celebrity fashion victims. He also showcased his new collection in April 2006 at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai.
This gifted designer became much-admired internationally when he was asked to design the clothes for Michael Jackson for his appearance during the Bollywood Awards held in New York. Amongst the many hues of the ongoing Fashion Week, Manish Malhotra seems to have seen red over some guests who skipped his show.

Apparently, on Tuesday, the team of Action Replayy, a film that Manish has designed costumes for, decided to skip his show for designer Neeta Lulla's. Neeta's presentation was just after Manish's and no, the programme itinerary was not pre-planned.

It turns out that the cast members Akshay Kumar, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Ranvijay and producer-director Vipul Shah had all taken front-row seats at the Neeta Lulla show.

Our source said, "Manish has designed the entire retro look in the film Action Replayy however none of the cast members came to watch his show. Manish was obviously upset. Apparently, the leading lady of the film Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who was not in town at the time, urged her team members to go and support her close friend Neeta Lulla."

As Preity Zinta, Rani Mukherjee, Priyanka Chopra and other Bollywood belles looked on expectantly, their favourite filmi designer delivered true to form on the ramp.

Teaming up with cellular service provider Aircel, couturier Manish Malhotra began his showing with an impassioned plea about tiger conservation on behalf of his sponsors and then proceeded to put on a dazzling display in their signature colours -- red and blue.

Model Tinu Verghese opened the show with arms outstretched to reveal a wispy, flowing ghagara choli in all its free-flowing glory. Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai will be walking the ramp for designer Manish Malhotra at the upcoming third edition of the HDIL India Couture Week.

"Beautiful Aishwarya is going to be the showstopper at my couture week show," Malhotra posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

The designer, who has worked on Aishwarya's looks for the mega-budget Endhiran and Action Replayy, is known to have given makeovers to many actresses, including Karisma Kapoor and Rani Mukerji.

He will be opening the couture week, starting Oct 6-10.

The designer says he will be showcasing 55 different outfits and emerald will be the dominant colour in his collection. "Cinema has been my being for almost two decades now," says Bollywood fashion designer Manish Malhotra.

That said, the couturier picks six stars who he feels will make the most impact in his latest creations.

Malhotra is presently putting a new collection together for an upcoming Fashion Week in the city (starting September 17).

Describing his latest work as extremely Indian but crafted in contemporary styles, he adds, "As it is the festive season, I am settling for traditional wear but with lots of fun and trying to make it funky."

Celebrity designer Manish Malhotra's shows are known for their heavy dose of Bollywood presence and it was not surprising that A-list actresses like Priyanka Chopra, Rani Mukjerji and Priety Zinta dazzled in the guest gallery at his offering at the Lakme Fashion Week.

The show, which was

sponsored by Aircel to promote its Save The Tiger Initiative, was attended by most of Malhotra's close friends and Bollywood actress including Urmila Matondkar, Sonakshi Sinha, Sameera Reddy and Sangeeta Bijlani.

The girl gang occupied front row and visibly enjoyed the show as they were seen giggling, clapping and cheering while the models sashayed down the ramp showcasing Malhotra's designs, which were all contemporary evening wear.

"For me, my clothes are my life and I wake up to it. 'Save the Tiger' is also a great cause to support and I'm happy that I collaborated with them," Malhotra told reporters after the show.
Commenting on the Bollywood brigade that came to support him, the designer said: "From first shots of these girls Priety Zinta, Rani Mukherji, Urmila till today, I have worked with them countless times and they are very close to me. I feel it's really nice that they are all in time, very supportive, very excited. It was really sweet of them."

All the actresses were sporting western outfits. While Rani, Sangeeta and Priyanka were dressed in black, Priety was looking her best in a pink outfit and Sameera was dressed in a white gown.

Sonakshi, who was also the showstopper for Narendra Kumar Ahmed's show, was sporting what she wore for the ramp - skin fitting jeans and a top.

As far as the collection was concerned, the designer used hues of red, blue and black and dabbled them with heavy embroidery, zari, crystals, sequins and brocade to highlight the delicate motifs.
Silhouettes were harem pants, salwars, sherwanis, lehengas and kalidar kurtas. Models were also seen flaunting saris and Jodhpur jackets in brocade and velvet combinations.
