Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012

We're going to look at some designers who caught our eye during the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012.

Sneha Arora was part of the group of designers who showcased their collections during the Gen Next Collection on the first day of Lakme Fashion Week W/F 2012. Her collection was named ‘Paradigm’ and inspired by her former corporate life. We loved the fact that she used a variety of materials and designs to give a very modern perspective on her collection.

There was a great mix of both structure and silhouette in her collection which appealed to us. The cubic prints, sharp blazers, pleats show that although she had a firm androgynous base, there was a intelligent effort to bring in femininity in terms of flowy drapes and vintage elements.

All in all, a perfect embodiment of the modern working woman.

 

Yogesh Chaudhary revealed his collection on Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week W/F 2012. Titled ‘Miss Pac-in District’, his collection was a vibrant collage of beautiful colours and retro designs that came together through different representations of the pacman print from the MS Pacman game. Electric blues, bright yellows, and fiery reds could be seen in the different ensembles that he presented.

We also loved how there was such a gamut of design styles used; we could see digital printing, knitwork, block printing for separates ranging from skirts and tees to even swimwear. This was a fun, relaxed collection with a very interesting print choice.Two thumbs up from us for such a cheerful display by the designer.

 

Since this Lakme Fashion Week event also showcased some designers who focused on the Festive aspect of the program, we wanted to highlight Payal Singhal’s collection, named ‘India in Colour.’ There were plenty of lehengas, jodhpuris and other indian wear that was seen on the runway, in the most exuberant selection of colours. Miss Singhal stayed away from the traditional pastels for her ethnic wear selection, and instead went for neons, limes and cobalts. There were strong accents of earthy indian flavour from Rajasthan, with strong influence from Kutch and Orissa. Although some may accuse Payal Singhal of repeating her designs, we think that she did what she had to do exquisite finesse and great workmanship. She has done complete justice to indian fusion with her collection during this fashion week.
