Manish Malhotra presented the Grand Finale on the 3rd day of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2012.  His collection was inspired by the Achbal Gardens in Kashmir and he brought the ambience to the runway with the elaborate set and an audio visual running clips of the beautiful flowers. His collection named Gulaala Aur Giltoor, is based on the two majestic flowers with distinct personality of their own. Manish Malhotra used the delicate nature of these flowers and artistically wove the whole look of the collection, from the flow and movement of the fabrics, to the beautiful embroideries and delicate hand-woven lace.
This Indian ethnic collection featured colors of ‘Gulaala’ which were reds, deep pinks, rust, brick hues and burnt oranges and that of ‘Giltoor’ – whites and ivories.
This collection came to being on the sets of the movie ‘Rockstar’, we all remember Nargis Fakhiri’s gorgeous Kashmiri outfits, don’t we? This beautiful and intricate thread and zari work, known to be used extensively in tapestry weaving and the making of traditional shawls, prompted Manish to take the craft to another level. Instead of heavy woolly fabrics, we see him using an array of delicate and sheer silks and nets along with crepes to create the rich evening wear look.
Menswear was a colorful mix of fabrics, textures and embroideries in traditional Bandhgala Suits worn with Patiala draped pants and straight leg silhouettes.
Womens wear silhouettes ranged from saris, lehengas to long paneled trapeze tunics with beautifully embroidered yokes worn with sheer and opaque straight pants.
In true Manish Malhotra style, he made men look like Gods and women look ethereal.
According to Manish Malhotra, “This show was a tribute to the team of 65 people who work for me and have contributed immensely to creation and showcase of the Kashmiri Craft that forms a critical aspect of my Indian evening wear collection.”
